1. Kopitiam Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock
Kopitiam Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock’s best food and drink options to try are the Good Nasi Lemak with Ayam Goreng and the Assam Laksa. The Nasi Lemak is delicious and comes with crunchy toppings. The Assam Laksa is also worth trying if you’re looking for a local delight. The mee rebus is quite JB style and comes with generous portions of crispies. However, the food is decent but not really mind-blowing. One minor issue is that you have to order by scanning a QR code but they don’t accept eWallet payment, which could be improved for convenience.
During the breakfast visit on a Saturday, they were the only customers. The service was decent, albeit slightly slow, giving the impression that they were not fully prepared even though it was already past the opening time.
One of the partners had cheong fun (rice noodle rolls) and neslo panas. She enjoyed it but felt the noodles were slightly too firm. On the other hand, the texture was just right for the narrator’s taste, as he finds cheong fun served too soft elsewhere. The sauce was flavorful and thankfully not overly sweet.
The narrator had the regular Nasi Lemak with an extra telur mata (fried egg with a runny yolk). The rice was aromatic and warm, enhancing the flavors of the other ingredients. The sambal was spicy and the ikan bilis (anchovies) were of good quality, which differentiates Kopitiam Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock from some other places that cut costs in this regard. The fried egg had nicely crispy edges, adding a delightful touch to the dish that the narrator finds difficult to replicate at home. Overall, it was a great way to start the day.
